| First Grade Highlights |
Reading is a major focus in first grade. Books, poetry, original stories, and many other kinds of reading material are used to expose students to the world of reading. Taking the time to read with your child every night is a wonderful way to encourage him/her in this process!
First graders are learning to communicate by writing. We write in many ways - by making lists, writing messages, creating stories, etc. Providing a wide variety of writing materials at home will encourage your child to write.
We learn about math through all kinds of real world experiences and stories. First graders explore addition, subtraction, patterns, shapes, measurement, time, money, and other mathematical concepts. Involving your child in real-life math problems and decisions will help him/her practice the skills he/she is learning. |
